Sieben Stages ;)

All the Worlds a Stage and All Men and Women mere Players, They have their exists and entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being Seven ages.

Sipping over some hot tea, sitting on my half crunching bed, mumbling to be left alone, i stumbled upon this piece of art. Long long time ago, during my school days i did happen to read these lines from Shakespeare’s “All’s Well that Ends Well or What You Will”. Today, these lines do make sense to me, but the more i read them, the more i bend the thoughts to fit in my lifestyle of today’s holocaust world. And here is one version i did come up with, being a Software Engineer. This is my ingenuity and i don’t claim it to be just mine. You never know, if there is another proprietor to the same clause, claiming for the rights. So i put in a disclaimer too.

Seven Stages of Software Engineer – :)

The first, a fresher, mewling and puking, lost in the thoughts and milds of his peers. Planning to work hard, and make a mark as he enters the Project, slowly cuddling around the daily phone calls, being a player at the Leader’s arms. He looks at people around him, and feels proud to be one of them. He dreams of gadgets, cars, bikes and what nots. Everything that’s branded and stylish, is his icon. And his moral morse is to work hard, and party harder.

And then the whining experienced guy, working hard for the ratings. His work is to work, day and night, and make his presence felt in the after nights. He is the soul creator of his destiny, as he carries his welching bag around, smiling, and sipping coffee for days to come, but tired at the very heart. He carries the latest mobile, and keeps atop the latest gadgets, shown off to the girls around. He parties with friends, and always dreams of a house, girl and car.

This soon comes out wealthy, when the ratings are out, and he is profound and proud of his work. The charm and the feeling of doing even better, in Love with his project, dreaming to become a Lead soon, or get an Onsite deep down in his heart. This guy woes day and night (and even swears a little), pleasing his PM in all the ways possible per se his ‘capabilities’. Late nights are just his daily bread and butter, and thinking of Girls his way to Live Life. For him, Girls are always better in the organization just next to him, and he would love to have one day a job in there.

The next comes in, swearing hard at whatever the system is, and whatever the system was. For him, nothing’s right, and working late nights is just sick (still he works the same way as he did then, coz he needs those ratings at hand). He is pissed off, and yet fights brave like a soldier. He has the courage to stand up and speak in the meeting, but not a courage to affront the Girl next door he is really in Love with (yes, finally he likes someone at his office too….that’s the way his life comes out to be, finding the best in the worst).

The later turned down guy, a Lead or a Manager, whining at little things, still working out with the Freshers, moulded into fooling people as he was fooled. He has an answer for everything within the process, and still never bothers to follow one himself. He looks back at his life, and laughs at the “Guy Next Door” working hard day and night. The truth he knows, he might or might not be the lucky one, but he speaks the truth (like a Justice), as per the policies. Still waiting for his peanuts, now a married one, crumbling over the ideas for a pint of wine to speak at home (It was a Client meeting). He’s been out-throned, and the girl he finally marries, is of course of the Other side, but still he feels, the other was better.

Then comes in the lean guy, a little arrogant for his age. Technically old with his methods, but proficient with his Ideas. He is the thinker, with thick glasses looking deeply down on the freshers. For him, they are the machines, someone whom he can train to be like him one day. He feels proud of himself, and his achievements (except his wife ;) ). He cribs less of the system, but always have a feeling and craving for more money. Yes, he is out in the market, with his resume floating all round, for a new job. He is quite willing to entertain anything, for a package, and speaks of processes.

The last, is the happy go lucky guy, smiling slightly. He crumbles over the bed, and thinks of money the whole day. His preferences changes from working late nights, to working smartly (as he normally puts it). He is the one, who has the package and now curses the every thing about the company that was good sometimes. He is the one who has resigned, the one who has signed his death agreement with the company’s services. He seems relaxed and enthusiastic about his new work, but is silent with everyone he knows, and never utters words of his package. He hardly talks, and still speaks. That’s his last history with the present company, as he moves on to live the next life.

And so, this life starts yet again, and again and never does this end, until he is finally sitting at home, sipping over a hot cup of tea as the rain splashes on his window and 2 lil kids come over his place, near the fire speaking loudly “Dadaji, How are You?”. But this guy has nothing to give, but his experience of his life, and how, whatever he did or tried to do, he always had to pass the Seven Stages in Everything (be it Life, Love or Work).

Churns: The life always takes us through various stages in every aspect (if not always seven). And whenever anything new comes in, or repeats, it’s the same cycle again and again. I know some of you can relate to this, and some can add more fervor to this.
