A question which intrigues even the best of the IT minds or just a Destiny of the so called Talents. I wondered and pondered over this Question long enough and finally thought of penning down a belief i believe in, sort of Experience i had with the Beautiful Minds.
Being an Engg or MCA, most of us dream Big, something to do UniQue, something with which WE lived throughout our college — the Softwares (Norton, Mc Cafe, Windows, Winamp, Turbo C, Quake, NFS, and the list goes on….). Everyone keeps a dream to be part of a company which is part of this SMALL development, that has capitalised into a market of it’s own and captured our young minds since childhood. So, there goes our Dream to get the best of the college (after a lot of BC and CC, and flirting and cheating and “Censored” 
). Well, tht’s part of the fun, but at the bottom of the heart, ev1 wants to be a DEVELOPER – The Wild Wild West. This hope keeps us working, though we are lost linking the ”Linked List” or structuring the “DataStructures”. Gosh!!! we are so innocent all through then, and could never make out, the world is not what we think it is.
So, when this smart damsel collegite comes out, the World welcomes it with lots of opportunity (SAP Labs, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Microsoft, HCL Tech and so on and so forth). Happily they walk, walk down the road, eyeing the big walls, drooling over the highlands, sceptic about the Security guards, still a big smile to be PART of this World soon. So, there goes the dream, of creating somethin unique, something which the WORLD uses. Alas, the question remains, Developer or Tester – but, is this question actually put affront the actual Players. Hmm, let’s take a look back.
We get through the screening, face interviews, answer questions which even Bill might have trouble figuring out. But there lies the dream, and so a hope and so we crumble up all the junk we know to clear our way in to this world of Demise and Delusion. God, finally that hapiness of getting through, might take a life. Time for TREAT, finally we are ready for the Big Day when those code of lines will just be a matter of time. Wow, that feeling still makes me CRY, it is nostalgic and cannot express the TRUE self. But what happens when this young heart goes and joins his DREAM. is he really acceptable as he thought he would be. This is the questions to many answers.
So, here is the point where randomly we are diagnosed on NO BASIS and put into testing or development. Is there no way to judge, is there absolutely no way to make a choice. Many do raise their voice, but to whom – Man that is your first job, and u are a FRESHER Tagged. So, we humbly but unwillingly take wht we get. I got testing first, but even after a lot of Tug War, am still a Tester. Dreams shattered, and we start the journey – a good welcome to the Broken Heart. Ahhh, that was painful, and that pain remains.
So, after a time of 3 years, i still think, is Developer worth the pain, or is testing really low Profiled. I feel happy to be a tester and proud to be one. Not that “Angoor khatte hain”, coz i did take a leap into Dev, still there is more to testing than what thinks it is — u jst need time to THINK OVER. Just one thing which all need to memorize – “Successfull Product is a Developers good Work, and a Failed Project is a Testers bad work”. We know this is not TRUE, all have there parts, but this is the way We, U, Me and Ev1 has been treating the two equally dependant Sides. Rem, when you played Quake, the first point said was, What a product, the Developers should be GREAT. Yeah Frens, this is the DIffERence.
For me, now am into unit testing/automation, and my dream for a Dev is just shaky, coz now am “Good for Nothin, and Best for Everythin”.
